ثم قال مخبرا عنهم : ( الذين كانت أعينهم في غطاء عن ذكري ) أي : تعاموا وتغافلوا وتصاموا عن قبول الهدى واتباع الحق ، كما قال تعالى : ( ومن يعش عن ذكر الرحمن نقيض له شيطانا فهو له قرين ) [ الزخرف : 36 ] وقال هاهنا : ( وكانوا لا يستطيعون سمعا ) أي : لا يعقلون عن الله أمره ونهيه .
