وقوله : ( ثم صدقناهم الوعد ) أي : الذي وعدهم ربهم : " ليهلكن الظالمين " ، صدقهم الله وعده ففعل ذلك; ولهذا قال : ( فأنجيناهم ومن نشاء ) أي : أتباعهم من المؤمنين ، ( وأهلكنا المسرفين ) أي : المكذبين بما جاءت الرسل به .
