فأجابه قومه قائلين : ( أجئتنا لتأفكنا ) أي : لتصدنا ( عن آلهتنا فأتنا بما تعدنا إن كنت من الصادقين ) استعجلوا عذاب الله وعقوبته ، استبعادا منهم وقوعه ، كقوله : ( يستعجل بها الذين لا يؤمنون بها ) [ الشورى : 18 ] .
