وقوله : ( وإن يروا آية ) أي : دليلا وحجة وبرهانا ) يعرضوا ) أي : لا ينقادون له ، بل يعرضون عنه ويتركونه وراء ظهورهم ، ( ويقولوا سحر مستمر ) أي : ويقولون : هذا الذي شاهدناه من الحجج سحر سحرنا به .
ومعنى ) مستمر ) أي : ذاهب . قاله مجاهد ، وقتادة ، وغيرهما ، أي : باطل مضمحل ، لا دوام له .
