( لا بارد ولا كريم ) أي : ليس طيب الهبوب ولا حسن المنظر ، كما قال الحسن وقتادة : ( ولا كريم ) أي : ولا كريم المنظر . وقال الضحاك : كل شراب ليس بعذب فليس بكريم .
وقال ابن جرير : العرب تتبع هذه اللفظة في النفي ، فيقولون : " هذا الطعام ليس بطيب ولا كريم ، هذا اللحم ليس بسمين ولا كريم ، وهذه الدار ليست بنظيفة ولا كريمة " .
