﴿فما اسطاعوا أن يظهروه وما استطاعوا له نقبا﴾: الفاء عاطفة على محذوف، أي: فجاء قوم يأجوج بعد أن أنهى بناءه وتسويته يحاولون أن يعلوه أو يثقبوه فما اسطاعوا. و﴿ما﴾ نافية، واسطاعوا فعل وفاعل، والمصدر المؤول من ﴿أن﴾ وما بعدها مفعول ﴿اسطاعوا﴾. ﴿وما استطاعوا﴾: عطف على ﴿فما اسطاعوا﴾، و﴿له﴾ جار ومجرور متعلقان بـ﴿نقبًا﴾، ونقبًا مفعول به.
