ثم قال جل وعلا ( ولو أن أهل الكتاب آمنوا واتقوا ) أي : لو أنهم آمنوا بالله ورسوله ، واتقوا ما كانوا يتعاطونه من المحارم والمآثم ( لكفرنا عنهم سيئاتهم ولأدخلناهم جنات النعيم ) أي : لأزلنا عنهم المحذور ولحصلناهم المقصود .
