A letter that is written but not pronounced.
When it applies
- An alif with a small round zero on it, like أَنَا۠ and ٱلظُّنُونَا۠. It's read only when stopping on the word.
- A madd letter dropped before a sukun or shaddah in the next word, like فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ.
- The alif after a waw of a plural verb, like ءَامَنُوا۟.
How to read it
Don't read the letter. A letter with a sukun is not silent, it's read without a vowel.
