Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Ash-Shu'ara — Ayah 192

26:192
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٩٢
Indeed this1 is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe;2

  • [1] The Arabic word used is jahiliyahwhich is derived from jahl, meaning ‘ignorance’, and refers to the pre-Islamic phase of paganism.
  • [2] Qira’at: Ibn Kathir, Hamza, Al Kesa’i and Khalaf read it as: “. . . and Allah is All-Seeing of what they do .”
  • [3] At the end of the historical account, the same theme, with which the Surah began, is resumed. For reference, see(verses 1-9).
  • [4] That is, this lucid Book whose verses are being recited to you, and this admonition from which the people are turning away, is not the product of the whims of a man. It has not been written and compiled by Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself, but it consists of the revelations of the Lord of this universe.
