Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Az-Zumar — Ayah 74

39:74
وَقَالُواْ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي صَدَقَنَا وَعۡدَهُۥ وَأَوۡرَثَنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَتَبَوَّأُ مِنَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ حَيۡثُ نَشَآءُۖ فَنِعۡمَ أَجۡرُ ٱلۡعَٰمِلِينَ ٧٤
They will say: “All thanks and praise be to Allah Who has made His promise to us come true, and Who gave us the earth to inherit.1 We may now dwell in Paradise wherever we please.”2 How excellent is the reward of those who laboured!3

  • [4] Qira’at: All except for Ibn Kathir, Abu ʻAmr, Hafs, Hamza and Khalaf read it as: “. . . rely on evident proofs . . .”
  • [5] The Arabic word used isQur’an which literally means ‘recital’ or ‘recitation’.
  • [6] Qira’at: All except for Ibn ʻAmer, Hafs, Hamza, Al-Kesa’i and Khalaf read it as: “(It is) a bestowal from on high . . .”
