Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Ghafir — Ayah 43

40:43
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّمَا تَدۡعُونَنِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ لَيۡسَ لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةٞ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَلَا فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ مَرَدَّنَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ٤٣
There is no doubt that those whom you call me to have no claim to be called upon in this world and in the Hereafter.1 Certainly to Allah shall be our return, and those who exceed the limits2 are destined to the Fire.

  • [1] The Arabic word used isayat(singularayah). Ayahmeans ‘sign’ or ‘proof’. It is also used to denote the unit of text in the Qur’an,like ‘verse’ in poetry or ‘sentence’ in prose.Each such unit isconsidered a ‘sign’from God.

  • [3] (1) That they neither possess here nor in the Hereafter any right that the people should be invited to acknowledge their godhead.
  • [4] Qira’at: Abu Jaʻfar read it as: “. . . that you pl may ponder . . .”
