Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Fussilat — Ayah 54

41:54
أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ فِي مِرۡيَةٖ مِّن لِّقَآءِ رَبِّهِمۡۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٖ مُّحِيطُۢ ٥٤
Lo, they are in doubt concerning their meeting with their Lord.1 Surely He fully encompasses everything.2

  • [1] Qira’at: All except for ʻAsem, Hamza, Al-Kesa’i and Khalaf read it as: “. . . the All-Knowing. 7(He is the) Lord of the . . .”
  • [2] That is, the basic cause of their attitude and conduct is that they are not sure that they will ever have to appear before their Lord and be held accountable for their deeds and actions.
  • [3] That is, they cannot escape His grasp nor can anything of their deeds be prevented from being recorded by Him.
