Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Al-Fath — Ayah 21

48:21
He also promises you other spoils which you have not yet taken, but Allah has encompassed them.1 Allah has power over everything.
Footnotes
  • [1] The Arabic word used is ummuhuwhich literally means ‘his mother’. According to Al-Qurtubi, Hell was described as a mother because the disbeliever heads towards it like a baby heads towards its mother.
  • [2] Most probably this is a reference to the conquest of Makkah. The same is the opinion of Qatadah and Ibn Jarir. It seems to mean this: Though Makkah has not yet fallen to you, Allah has encircled it, and as a result of this victory at Hudaibiyah, it will also fall to you.
