«Они не станут сражаться с вами вместе, разве что в укрепленных селениях или из-за стен». Это значит, что из-за своей трусости и страха они не могут встретиться лицом к лицу с армией Ислама, поэтому будут прятаться за неприступными крепостями и высокими ограждениями. Иначе говоря, они будут сражаться, только если у них будет защита.
Затем Всевышний Аллах говорит:
﴾بَأْسُهُمْبَيْنَهُمْشَدِيدٌ﴿ «Меж собой у них жестокая вражда». Они сильно враждуют друг с другом, как сказано в другом аяте: ﴾وَيُذِيقَبَعْضَكُمْبَأْسَبَعْضٍ﴿ «одни из вас вкусят жестокость других»(Сура 6, аят 65). Поэтому Он сказал: ﴾تَحْسَبهُُمْجَمِيعاًوَقلُُوبهُُمْشَتَّىٰ﴿ «Ты полагаешь, что они едины, но сердца их разобщены» — т.е. ты думаешь, что они сплочены, но на самом деле они разрознены. Согласно Ибрахиму ан-Нах’и, в этом аяте идет речь о лицемерах и людях Писания. ﴾ذٰلِكَبِأَنَّهُمْقَوْمٌلاَّيَعْقِلُونَ﴿ «Это потому, что они являются людьми не разумеющими».
