أمره أن يجاهدَ الكُفَّار بالسيف، والمواعظ الحسنة، والدعاء إلى الله، والمنافقين بالغلظة، وإقامة الحُجَّة أن يعرفهم أحوالهم في الآخرة، وأنه لا نُور لهم يجوزون به على الصِّراط مع المؤمنين.
وقال الحسنُ: أي: جاهدهم بإقامة الحدود عليهم، فإنهم كانوا يرتكبون موجبات الحدود وكانت الحدودُ تقامُ عليهم ﴿وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ﴾ يرجع إلى الصنفين ﴿وَبِئْسَ المصير﴾ أي: المرجع.
قال ابن الخطيب: وفي مخاطبة النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم َ بقوله: ﴿يا أيها النبي﴾ في أول السورة وفي هذه الآية ووصفه بالنبي لا باسمه، كقوله لآدم: ﴿يا آدم﴾ [البقرة: 35] ، وموسى ﴿ياموسى﴾ [طه: 11] ، ولعيسى ﴿ياعيسى﴾ [المائدة: 116] دليل على فضيلته عليهم.
فإن قيل: قوله: ﴿وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ﴾ يدل على أن مصيرهم بئس المصيرُ، فما فائدة ذلك؟ فالجوابُ: أن مصيرهم بئس المصير مطلقاً، والمطلق يدل على الدوام، وغير المطلق لا يدل على الدوام.
