وقوله تعالى: قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِي أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ يعني عَذَابَهم الذي وُعِدُوا به، والأمدُ المُدَّةُ والغايةُ.
وقوله تعالى: إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضى مِنْ رَسُولٍ معناه فإنه يُظْهِرُه عَلَى ما شَاءَ مما هو قليلٌ من كثير، [ثم] يَبُثُّ تعالى حَوْلَ ذلك الملَكِ الرَّسُولِ حَفَظَةً رَصَداً لإبليسَ وحِزْبِه من الجنِ والإنْس.
وقوله تعالى: لِيَعْلَمَ أَنْ قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا ... الآية، قال ابنُ جُبَيْرٍ: لِيعْلَمَ محمدٌ أنَّ الملائِكَة الحَفَظَةَ الرَّصَد النازِلينَ بَيْنَ يدي جبريلَ وخَلْفَه قَدْ أبلغوا رسالاتِ رَبِّهم [[ذكره ابن عطية (5/ 385) ، وابن كثير (4/ 433) ، والسيوطي في «الدر المنثور» (6/ 438) ، وعزاه لعبد بن حميد، وابن جرير، وابن المنذر، وابن أبي حاتم، وأبي الشيخ في «العظمة» .]] ، وقال مجاهد: معناه لِيَعْلَمَ مَنْ كَذَّبَ أو أشْرَكَ أنَّ الرُّسُلَ قَدْ بَلَّغَتْ [[أخرجه الطبري (12/ 277) ، رقم: (35163) بنحوه، وابن عطية (5/ 385) ، وابن كثير (4/ 433) ، والسيوطي في «الدر المنثور» (6/ 439) ، وعزاه لعبد بن حميد.]] ، وقيل: المعنى لِيَعْلَمَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى رُسُلَه مُبَلِّغَةً خَارِجَةً إلى الوُجُودِ، لأَنَّ عِلْمَه بكلِّ شيء قد تقدّم، والضمير في أَحاطَ وأَحْصى لله سبحانه لا غير.
