( أولم يروا أن الله الذي خلق السموات والأرض ) في عظمتها وشدتها ( قادر على أن يخلق مثلهم ) في صغرهم وضعفهم نظيره قوله تعالى : " لخلق السماوات والأرض أكبر من خلق الناس "( غافر - 57 ) .
( وجعل لهم أجلا ) أي : وقتا لعذابهم ( لا ريب فيه ) أنه يأتيهم قيل : هو الموت وقيل : هو يوم القيامة ( فأبى الظالمون إلا كفورا ) أي : جحودا وعنادا .
