"ألم نجعل الأرض كفاتاً"، وعاءً، ومعنى الكفت: الضم والجمع، يقال: كفت الشيء: إذا ضمه وجمعه. وقال الفراء: يريد تكفتهم أحياء على ظهرها في دورهم ومنازلهم، وتكفتهم أمواتاً في بطنها، أي: تحوزهم.
