أي : يكفر عنهم من ذنوبهم ، إن كان لهم ذنوب وإلا رفع لهم في درجاتهم بحسب ما أصيبوا به ، وقوله : ( ويمحق الكافرين ) أي : فإنهم إذا ظفروا بغوا وبطروا فيكون ذلك سبب دمارهم وهلاكهم ومحقهم وفنائهم .
