وقوله : ( ولقد أرسلنا إلى أمم من قبلك فأخذناهم بالبأساء ) يعني : الفقر والضيق في العيش ) والضراء ) وهي الأمراض والأسقام والآلام ( لعلهم يتضرعون ) أي : يدعون الله ويتضرعون إليه ويخشعون .
