Translation for 24:9

وَٱلۡخَٰمِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيۡهَآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ ٩
and a fifth oath that Allah may be displeased with her if he is telling the truth.1

This ruling is called li’ân in the Islamic legal system. Once the husband and the wife swear five times, as specified in 24:6-9, the marriage is terminated forever—which means that they can never be remarried.
