Translation for 24:9

وَٱلۡخَٰمِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيۡهَآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ ٩

and a fifth oath that Allah may be displeased with her if he is telling the truth.¹

This ruling is called li’ân in the Islamic legal system. Once the husband and the wife swear five times, as specified in 24:6-9, the marriage is terminated forever—which means that they can never be remarried.
