Translation for 68:42

يَوۡمَ يُكۡشَفُ عَن سَاقٖ وَيُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ ٤٢
˹Beware of˺ the Day the Shin will be bared,1 and all will be asked to prostrate, but the wicked will not be able to do so,

Like the Face and the Hands, the Shin is believed by many scholars to be one of the qualities of Allah, in a way befitting His Majesty and Honour. The fact that Allah has a Shin is supported by an authentic ḥadîth narrated by Bukhâri and Muslim. According to Ibn Kathîr and Aṭ-Ṭabari, since baring the shin in the Arab culture is associated with the heat of battle, some interpret the verse metaphorically, so the meaning would be: “˹Beware of˺ the Day when horror sets in.”
