The seventh word of verse (2:144) is divided into 5 morphological segments. A resumption particle, emphatic prefix, verb, emphatic suffix and object pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form II imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is wāw lām yā (و ل ي). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد). The attached object pronoun is second person masculine singular.
