The second word of verse (12:42) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and relative pronoun. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The relative pronoun is masculine singular. Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).
