The first word of verse (14:14) is divided into 5 morphological segments. A conjunction, emphatic prefix, verb, emphatic suffix and object pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is sīn kāf nūn (س ك ن).
