The sixteenth word of verse (2:214) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The passive perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's quadriliteral root is zāy lām zāy lām (ز ل ز ل). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.
