The sixth word of verse (2:221) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, emphatic prefix and noun. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The indefinite noun is feminine singular and is in the nominative case (مرفوع). The noun's triliteral root is hamza mīm wāw (أ م و).
