The first word of verse (2:20) is an imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is third person masculine singular and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw dāl (ك و د). The verb (يكاد) belongs to a special group of words known as kāda and her sisters (كاد واخواتها).
