The fifth word of verse (27:36) is divided into 4 morphological segments. An interrogative alif, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is mīm dāl dāl (م د د). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The yā of the first person singular object pronoun has been omitted due to elision (الياء محذوفة), and is indicated by the kasrah.
