The first word of verse (37:153) is divided into 2 morphological segments. An interrogative alif and verb. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The form VIII perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is ṣād fā wāw (ص ف و).
