The eighth word of verse (3:166) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, particle of purpose and verb. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine singular and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn lām mīm (ع ل م).
