The first word of verse (53:35) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An interrogative alif, location adverb and possessive pronoun. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The location adverb is in the accusative case (منصوب). The location adverb's triliteral root is ʿayn nūn dāl (ع ن د). The attached possessive pronoun is third person masculine singular.
