The twelfth word of verse (5:13) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A circumstantial particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "while" and is used to indicate the circumstance of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is nūn sīn yā (ن س ي). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.
