The sixteenth word of verse (5:68) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A resumption particle, emphatic prefix, verb and emphatic suffix. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine singular and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is zāy yā dāl (ز ي د). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد).
