The second word of verse (6:40) is divided into 4 morphological segments. An interrogative alif, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is second person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is rā hamza yā (ر أ ي). The suffix (التاء) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.
