The 25th word of verse (2:90) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, preposition and active participle. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The active participle is masculine plural and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The active participle's triliteral root is kāf fā rā (ك ف ر). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).
