Text Uthmani:

وَلَوۡ أَنَّا كَتَبۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ أَنِ ٱقۡتُلُوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡ أَوِ ٱخۡرُجُواْ مِن دِيَٰرِكُم مَّا فَعَلُوهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٞ مِّنۡهُمۡۖ وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ فَعَلُواْ مَا يُوعَظُونَ بِهِۦ لَكَانَ خَيۡرٗا لَّهُمۡ وَأَشَدَّ تَثۡبِيتٗا ٦٦

Rashid Maash:

Si Nous leur avions imposé de tuer leurs frères ou de quitter leur patrie, rares sont ceux parmi eux qui auraient obtempéré. Se soumettre aux ordres aurait pourtant été préférable pour eux et plus à même de raffermir leur foi.

French Translation(Muhammad Hamidullah):

Si Nous leur avions prescrit ceci : "Tuez-vous vous- mêmes !", ou "Sortez de vos demeures !", ils ne l’auraient pas fait, sauf un petit nombre d’entre eux. S’ils avaient fait ce à quoi on les exhortait, cela aurait été certainement meilleur pour eux, et (leur foi) aurait été plus affermie.
