Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Ar-Rum — Ayah 16

30:16
وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَلِقَآيِٕ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُحۡضَرُونَ ١٦
As for those who disbelieved1 and gave the lie to Our Signs and to the encounter of the Hereafter, they will be arraigned for chastisement.

  • [1] One thing here is noteworthy. Good works have been mentioned as a necessary adjunct of the faith, which will earn one the blissful Garden. But no mention has been made of the evil acts while mentioning the evil end of disbelief. This clearly indicates that disbelief by itself is enough to mar the destiny of a person, whether it is accompanied by the evil act or not.
  • [2] Qira’at: All except Hafs, Hamza, Al-Kesa’i and Khalaf read it as: “indeed, your prayers are . . .”
