36:46
وَمَا تَأۡتِيهِم مِّنۡ ءَايَةٖ مِّنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُواْ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِينَ ٤٦
Never does any Sign of their Lord come to them, but they turn away from it.1
Footnotes
  • [1] Ibn Kathir, Abu ʻAmr, Abu Jaʻfar, Yaʻqub, Nafieʻ, Ibn ʻAmer and Hafs read “kindled” in masculine form referring to the lamp being kindled from the oil of a blessed tree. All others read it in feminine form referring to the glass being kindled.
  • [2] “Signs”: Verses of the divine Book by which man is admonished, and the signs which are found in the universe and in man’s own self and in his history which serve as abject lessons for man, provided he is inclined to learn any lesson.
