Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah Ya-Sin — Ayah 68

36:68
وَمَن نُّعَمِّرۡهُ نُنَكِّسۡهُ فِي ٱلۡخَلۡقِۚ أَفَلَا يَعۡقِلُونَ ٦٨
Whomsoever We grant a long life, We reverse him in his constitution.1 Do they still not understand?
Footnotes
  • [1] The Qur’an always uses verb ‘to bring’ rather than verb ‘to give’ in association with charity; this should be pondered by the reader.
  • [2] “Reverse him in creation,” means that in old age Allah turns him back to the state of childhood. He becomes unable to stand and walk without the help and support of others; he is fed by others; he urinates and defecates in bed; talks childishly and is laughed at by others. In short, towards the end of life he returns to the same state of weakness with which he had started life in this world.
