Tafheem-ul-Quran - Abul Ala Maududi translation for Surah As-Saffat — Ayah 103

37:103
فَلَمَّآ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِينِ ١٠٣
When both surrendered (to Allah's command) and Abraham flung the son down on his forehead,1

  • [1] Qira’at: Ibn Kathir, Hamza, Al-Kesa’i and Khalaf read it as: “wind ”.
  • [2] That is, the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) did not make his son lie flat on his back but made him lie prostrate lest while slaughtering him the sight of his face should arouse compassion and love and make him shaky. Therefore, he wanted to use the knife from under the throat.
