وَإِذَا الْبِحارُ سُجِّرَتْ أى: امتلأت وفاض ماؤها واختلط عذبها بملحها، وصارت بحرا واحدا، مأخوذ من قولهم: سجر الحوض، إذا ملأه حتى فاض من جانبيه.
ويصح أن يكون معنى «سجرت» : أحميت بالنار حتى تبخرت مياهها، وظهرت النار في مكانها، من قولهم: سجر فلان التنور، إذا ملأه بالحطب المعد للحرق.
