ثُمَّ
Then
قَفَّيْنَا
We sent
عَلَىٰٓ
on
ءَاثَٰرِهِم
their footsteps
بِرُسُلِنَا
Our Messengers
وَقَفَّيْنَا
and We followed
بِعِيسَى
with Isa
ٱبْنِ
son
مَرْيَمَ
(of) Maryam
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ
and We gave him
ٱلْإِنجِيلَ
the Injeel
وَجَعَلْنَا
And We placed
فِى
in
قُلُوبِ
(the) hearts
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
ٱتَّبَعُوهُ
followed him
رَأْفَةً
compassion
وَرَحْمَةً
and mercy
وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً
But monasticism
ٱبْتَدَعُوهَا
they innovated
مَا
not
كَتَبْنَٰهَا
We prescribed it
عَلَيْهِمْ
for them
إِلَّا
only
ٱبْتِغَآءَ
seeking
رِضْوَٰنِ
(the) pleasure
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
فَمَا
but not
رَعَوْهَا
they observed it
حَقَّ
(with) right
رِعَايَتِهَا
observance
فَـَٔاتَيْنَا
So We gave
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believed
مِنْهُمْ
among them
أَجْرَهُمْ
their reward
وَكَثِيرٌ
but most
مِّنْهُمْ
of them
فَٰسِقُونَ
(are) defiantly disobediently
