Translation for 44:12

رَّبَّنَا ٱكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُونَ ١٢

Our Lord! Remove ˹this˺ torment from us, ˹and˺ we will certainly believe.”¹

According to Al-Qurṭubi, this passage either refers to the overwhelming Smoke, which is one of the major signs of Judgment Day, or a severe haze caused by drought. Verse 15 supports the 2nd opinion, because if it was the Smoke it would not have been removed from the Meccans.
