لِيَقۡطَعَ طَرَفٗا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَوۡ يَكۡبِتَهُمۡ فَيَنقَلِبُواْ خَآئِبِينَ ١٢٧

to destroy a group of the disbelievers and humble the rest, causing them to withdraw in disappointment.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali & Muhammad Muhsin Khan:

That He might cut off a part of those who disbelieve, or expose them to infamy, so that they retire frustrated.
