Text Uthmani:

فَلَوۡلَا نَصَرَهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ قُرۡبَانًا ءَالِهَةَۢۖ بَلۡ ضَلُّواْ عَنۡهُمۡۚ وَذَٰلِكَ إِفۡكُهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُواْ يَفۡتَرُونَ ٢٨

French Translation(Muhammad Hamidullah):

Pourquoi donc ne les secourent pas, ceux qu’ils avaient pris, en dehors d’Allah, comme divinités pour [soi-disant] les rapprocher de Lui ? Ceux-ci, au contraire, les abandonnèrent; telle est leur imposture et voilà ce qu’ils inventaient comme mensonges.

Rashid Maash:

Si seulement leurs habitants avaient pu être sauvés par les divinités qu’ils adoraient en dehors d’Allah en prétendant mensongèrement que ces dernières les rapprochaient du Seigneur ! Mais ces fausses divinités, qu’ils avaient eux-mêmes inventées, avaient disparu.
